got a 2007 XL1200C, and the stock seat is a little hard. my girl wants to ride with me and she will need some comfort on the long trips. so whats the best seat for her bottom? and mine too.
I hear the Sundowner seat is the way to go. Lots here have them, or look into the Mustang Touring Seat. I had a Mustang on my Sporty and there are really comfortable on a long ride.
I can't tell you "the best" My only experience is with that 2 x 4 they call a stock seat, and the Sundowner. I find the Sundowner plenty comfortable for up to 10 hours a day in the Saddle. The stock seat was comfortable for about 10 minutes (or less)
Be advised, if seat height is an issue for you, the Sundowner will increase the distance from the seat to the ground by over an inch. I didn't measure it, but I could tell a signficant difference in flat footing the bike. Thiswasn't an issue in my case, but it could be for some.
I have the HD pillow tandem. It gets the next compliment after riders look over the whole bike. It issoft, yet supportive and wide enough to spread your weight. I think it and the Sundowner are similar in general shape.
Thanks sporty pig I was thinking of the sundowner but I,m short so I'll get the pillion for my solo
I had the passenger pillon/stock solo seat setup for about 8,000 miles. That passenger pillion is fairly comfortable. Only problem is, it leaves poor ole rider on the stock seat. OUCH.
I'm tall enough that on long trips I would sometimes slip back and ride on the passenger pillion. I only did that on straight roads, with clear vision for a good distance. It does upset the weight balance on the bike, thus handling could be a real issue. But it was a good way to at least get a short bit of relief from the stock seat.
I use the sundowner - it is very comfortable and a HUGE improvement over the stock. I didn't think about the height issue when I replaced it - but it was a bonus. My windshield was right at my line of sight - when I swapped seats,my line of sight is now between 1 and 2" above the top of the shield (perfect for me). So you do gain some height.
