I didn't use them on mine but if I were going for them, I'd probably go for DK Custom ones.

1/4" thick... that is pretty good. Doubt you will pull a bolt thru that or bend it.

Likely the more expensive ones are chrome or a different design.

I'm sure the DK's are very good but it just depends on what your budget is...

The more i look at these shocks the more i think they suit the Iron. They perfectly match the forks with their black colour and gaters. Loving the symmetry!!

Mine just came in the mail today
I bought the 54662-09 12" model
My bike is a new 2017 Iron. I haven't had the wife on it yet because I just got the seat and backrest in today but I figured I needed an upgrade. I'm 190 and she is 150
The seller said they were new take offs and there is no oil in them
There is a plug where the shraeder valve goes
So what's next?
Buy a couple air tank valves right?
What about oil? I heard people using transmission fluid?
I have a mighty vac pump so that should make it easier right?
How much oil and what type/weight?
What air pressure for me and my wife?
Any tips or things I need to know?
Thanks!

I have a 1998 XLH 883 (1500 miles) in like new condition. It has the stock coil-over shocks which are fairly long. I also have a new set of 54565-09 G5E3-00 air shocks.
How much can I lower the bike with these shocks and will I still get a smooth ride? I'm 210 lbs. and never carry a passenger.
Tehank you.

Just saw this post, if you haven't already put them on, hard to tell if the old oil is actually all out, and you want it all out to get the right measurement back in. Easy way to check, and to get any that might still be in there out, is put one air shock on upside down, take the other off (it will sit fine on one shock) and just bounce it up and down a bit with a hand on the seat. Oh yeah, don't do this without the new valve in, you'll take the valve out but need the nipple to slide a plastic tube over to direct the oil into a container, otherwise it will spray all over. Then put the other shock on upside down, take first one off, and repeat, no special tools needed. I put 9 oz of 10 weight shock oil in mine, read the 9 oz works fine with the lighter bike, and it rides real smooth now. I started with 10psi (I'm almost 250, over with gear) and then one shock wouldn't hold air all day so now they're just ambient, but even that still gives a smooth ride and I don't bottom out unless I carry a passenger, and even then it takes a heavy bump to do it.

Let my grandson do one, with a helping hand.
