Story I hear is that the R has 70HP. I think that's a bit more than standards. I want the longer shocks and increased cornering ability mainly.

Nope, same engines. Standard and Roadsters are the same height. Roadsters will give better repeated hard stopping with the dual disks though.
Yeah I love my KZ, will out perform any stock sportster. Its been under the refurbishment knife for the last year and a half or so. Im hoping to have her done before winter but might not be till next season. She started life with me as my girlfriends bike. It was just too tall and heavy for her though. Now shes mine.............all mine

I always loved the Japanese 4-cylinders. Great engines. Some day hope to find a restored 1974 KZ900 (in brown/yellow) or better yet a 1972 CB750 (in gold) like I had in the local area.
