Ok I am hopefully pending credit approval, going to buy a Harley Sportster tommorrow. It is the Harley Sportster 1200C Red&Grey w. security feature. The tag price is $10,800.00 .
Is that fair or will most Harley Dealers work with that price. I got pre approved for 12,500.00 but want to have plenty for TT&L which left about $800.00 for a Helmet and Jacket and accessories for safety. Would it be out of line to want them to add a free or reduced priced winshield at that sticker price or am I getting a fair deal.
Also this is my first bike. Is this a wise choice. I am turning 30 in march and am 5'6" and 240 so am a pretty beefy guy. I was afraid to go with the 800cc model since my weight. Any other recommendation as far a bike or add-ons????
Sorry for the stupid newbie questions, but thought I would ask the experienced riders here........................
I'm thinking you are going to love your ride, think about it 20 hours a day, buff the chrome right off the blasted thing!1200's fairly torquey, should have plenty of beef for you.10500.oo is a good price!I've heard nothing but good about them.ENJOY and post a pic [sm=smiley32.gif]
Get it stock and ride it some before you think about mods. Since this is your first bike see how you like it, see what you like and don't and then talk to people and decide. Good luck.
You'll be fine on this Bike, at you hieght and weight, I'm about 5'9" 220 and in terms of torque, I'll slide ride of the back if I ain't carefull..you'll be fine
Hey "GUN"
best of luck with your scoot. You did the right thing by going with a 1200 C. Which is one of the quickest Bikes HD makes [ with a little help]
The price range seems ok, try to et the dealer to add something free. When I got my 04 1200C the dealer thru in FREE a set of SEIIs [slip fits] and a RE-jet. What they call the Harley Tax.
Anyway stay in touch with us and send PICS.
OH by the way when some other HD owner calls it a girls Bike Just say NO its a BITCH BIKE, because your going to bitch when I leave you behind.
Ride safe
Vinnie
I think you will be very happy with your 1200C. The only difference beteen us is that I'm 11 inches taller. Kind of funny......I too, am turning 30 in March and weigh 240 but I'm 6'5" and I bought my first bike, a 2004 1200R, on Aug. 1, 2004. The dealer threw in SEII slip fit slash downs, a dyno jet kit, K&N air cleaner, and forward controls (a must have for a tall dude) ALL FOR FREE........heck of a deal..........I got in for under 10K.......they were basically trying to move left over 2004 inventory to make room for the class of 2005. Anyways, I reccommend doing the Stage 1 right off the bat, you won't regret it......from what I understand it adds about 10 hp and 10 lb-ft torque which makes it around 90 hp and 80 torque give or take a little. Very torquey. Very fast. Runs like a scalded dog. Even if I had to pay for the upgrade I still would have done it. In my opinion, if you're going to buy a Harley-Davidson why not make it sound like one.......all personal preference. My budget would only allow for a Sportster.....I really wanted a Super Glide.....but after having the Sportster for a while it has really grown on me. I have to try real hard to find an excuse not to ride. Since I bought it I couldn't get off it......I already logged 4500 miles. This Christmas I added the Sundowner touring seat for Sportsters which is very compforable......that stock seat wasn't comfortable at all for rider or passenger.....ahhhhh so many upgrades......so little money. Gun, have fun with your bike.
This Summer going Califronia Redwoods and next Summer going to Sturgis!
I totally agree with 12stones. Get it, ride it, and the bike will tell you what it needs for you, except for the pipes. You know you're gonna want that.
