I had that happen to me in 1972. I don't know where my 'reaction' came from, since I had never taken a class or heard the term 'counter steering' and didn't know 'push left to turn left' or vice versa, but I somehow managed to safely complete my turn. And as I learned over the next 40 years, pushing, or pulling, have the same effect. With different hands and at different times, of course.
