Due to the fact that I am cheap, I was able to get a customized paint scheme for 40 bucks. First I removed the tank gas cap trim ring off of my 05 1200C as I always fealt it detracted from the looks of the tank. Man that tank looks large without it. Also the seam was visible slightly in the bright sun without the trim. A local talent then pinstriped a cool design on the top center of my tank below the gas cap matching the gray/silver pinstriping on the rest of the bike. It's amazing what a minimalist pinstriping job does for the overall look and proportionality of the tank and bike. I couldn't be happier. the trim ring comes off easily by removing the seat and hooking the trim at the base of the tank and yanking and then taking the tape and residue off. No scratches. My harley tank logos may be next. Once I get the new six-shooter billet gas cap, I should be done. The striping went on over the clear coat. A friend who is a body man and customizes bikes suggested I do it this way as it is simply a matter of removing the pinstriping and replacing it with something else down the road should I get sick of the design. Lots of good examples and templates on the internet.
