Default baffled

I just bought a 03' xlh sporty saturday. Only had 1172 miles on it cause the guy I bought it from never rode it. Anyways, brought it home and the wife said it sounded like a lawnmower because it has the stock exhaust with the muffler baffles. [:'(]. First thing sunday morning I got up and knocked the little center part out of the baffle wich made the pipes sound alot better. I have been told that the carb will have to be re-jetted but I have noticed no difference in how it is running or in performance. I do plan to put some straight drag pipes on it in the future though and want to know if I will have to have it jetted. Any input on this?

If you only plan on non-stock pipes, you may not have to rejet. However, I would stay alert to any symptoms that your Sportie is running lean. If you also go with a high-flow air filter-intake, as well as the pipes, the chances are very high that you will need to rejet.

There are several different slip-ons available. Many people, including me, use the Screamin Eagle II slip ons. If you get these, try for the ones with the baffles bolted in, not welded. Makes removal much easier. These pipes are loud and deep.
