aux light bar w/ amber markers up front
aux tail/brake light, modulated
small hard leather saddle bags
small windscreen
pillion and sissy bar (part time when wifey wants to go for a ride)
air cleaner (the round black one is boring and my guess is aftermarket will give perf. benefits?)

What am I missing?

Thanks Guys and Gals!
Congrats on your new ride!

Here are a couple of Sportsters I've customized. Tons of pics and info in each thread.

I'd take some time and ride the bike, let your experience direct how you want to mod it...and in the meantime, be reading the these two threads to get some ideas-

I rode my 883 for over 3 years as an 883, then I went with a NRHS 1250 upgrade!

I got a few chuckles out of some of the replies here! The question posed as to why an 883 and not a 1200 in the first place is actually valid.

I have built and rebuilt several Sportsters over the past 20 or so years. My reply about 883 vs 1200 usually centers on what really is a person going to do with the bike. I come from the days when a lot of us rode 650 British bikes - and Sportsters were BIG bikes - that were faster/quicker than Harley 74s and even most 80s! (Okay - I have dated myself here ... that was 46/47 years ago, to be exact).

If you are riding around town/commuting a lot 883cc is plenty...if you are on the highway riding one up a lot, it is still plenty....If you are riding two up on the highway, it will still keep up with and go faster than the traffic ... If you are riding with a lot of much larger/performancier bikes, it won't accelerate as quick... A 1200 kit perform better but it will cost you about 10 miles to the gallon in fuel economy...and, where I live, about a couple of hundred a year more for insurance. I say do not be too concerned with going to a 1200kit any time soon.

The obvious answer for accessories is go the the "stealership"...I call it that for a reason. (Wanna guess why?) I have bought A LOT of items on ebay and from one online company called Jireh Cycles. For Sportsters, Jireh is not a place that has everything - they are more custom softail oriented. They do have things like windshield kits, air cleaners, handlebars, controls, custom headlights/taillights/turnsignals, stock style and custom style seats, wheels & tires and general repair/maintenance/upkeep stuff ... Their prices are pretty good in addition to their offering free shipping within continental USA on orders of (I am pretty sure) $100 or more. What you have to know quite well though is what fits and what doesn't fit! Jireh does not offer a lot of customer service - which is why their prices are pretty good. You can find them online and download their six hundred page catalog in PDF format.

As for ebay - several of the ebay stores are reasonably decent to deal with. They offer new stuff, used stuff, new take offs etc - depending on which store. Your imagination is probably your only restriction.

What items to start with for a bit of personalization?... PIPES - specifically slip on mufflers that are a bit louder. My preference is D & D pipes - they sell direct to customers online or over the phone. They guarantee about a 5% HP increase WITHOUT power tuning!... SEAT - Jireh sells a few nice two up seats....Sissybar - the Harley OEM or Harley style aftermarket item is hard to beat - with aftermarket being about the same quality-wise and a lot cheaper than OEM (with both coming from Taiwan or China anyways) - ebay is a good place to start looking... SADDLEBAGS/Supports - check what Jireh may have ...WINDSHIELD ... On my Dyna, I run a Memphis Shades Sportshield unit....VERY NICE quick mount/dismount - serial numbered and lifetime replacement if it breaks - retails at about $100....

I hope that gets you pointed in the right direction!....

Have fun riding and personalizing!

there's tons of things you could with your Iron. I too have a 2016 Iron 883... yes i bought it new and yes i know the 1200 has more get up and go i plan to get the 1250 eventually but that will later than sooner..... the bike is enough for i need which is scooting around town or maybe a short day trip to nearby places.

what you will realize with making a list of mods is that while you are doing your mods you will be changing stuff so like the other guy said, don't rush.

modding and tinkering on the bike is half the fun.

I would say...Ride it first, look at other bikes...Feel what you need vs what you want...
Someone here said do it slowly and experience every moment of it... I concur that...
All the best and Post some pics of your Sporty...You know what they say, you havent bought it yet, if you havent shared any pics...

as far as modding, you basically know what you want to do already, so just ride it for now until your ready to tear it down, go online, for a few days, & google search the parts your looking for, hit images and see what you like. a lot of the stuff will send you back to this forum. do that for a little while, there's so many different sites to look at and ebay has everything, usually cheaper than the company that makes it. try to go to bike shows also and see different custom bikes in person. the one pain in the *** is buying a part, then seeing one you like better a week later, that gets very expensive. trust me.
good luck! and post pics!
