Default 2009 Nightster

Iv been looking at buying a Sportster and like the Nightster line. Iv found a 2009 with 15,000 miles for $4,200. It has no cosmetic issues and is bone stock. Is this a good deal or about average for the mileage given and having no aftermarket parts? Thanks in advance.

Sounds reasonable to me....did you test ride? May not have cosmetic issues but may have mechanical issues. Just to make you feel good, I bought a 2011 with more than 3X your mileage and only an exhaust upgrade for a lot more than that. But it also depends where you are located which affects landed cost and supply & demand in your area. Good luck.

I have not had a chance to test ride as it is a ways from home. It hasn't been started in a year and a half as the seller claims he has been out of the country working. He says it has a dead battery so I would need to buy one to make sure it actually runs before buying. Its winter here (utah) so that helps in my favor as far as trying to negotiate a price.

NADA calls it at $4700-$6200 but a lot depends on your location.

The price sounds good. However I feel the seller is responsible to pay money for the bike to get it in running condition for a sale. I would feel it rude of the seller if I was asking to test ride or even start a bike to buy from someone and they said I have to buy a battery for it when it's their bike and they are selling it. Your choice and you may feel differently, it's just how I feel about it.

Yes I agree with you. I told the seller I wouldn't buy it until i heard it run and could ride it and he stated he didn't have the time or money to get a new battery. So he is either desperate for money or doesn't really want to sell it too bad.

Hmm, and that's if he's honest and lazy. People can always stop by a place after work and buy a battery. Hell I wouldn't be surprised if walmart has he battery you need and they are open 24/7. If he doesn't have the money then he can reduce the price of the bike by a lot. He needs to realize it's a gamble for you to buy a bike you haven't heard run.

Do you have a buddy with a harley to jump it with? Maybe someone can give advice for jumping it with a car, I haven't had success jumping my sportster with my car but it had a pretty small battery and is a small car in general over here in Japan. It didn't have enough juice even with the car running lol.

Price seems reasonable but I would definitely not even consider buying it from a private party without hearing it running.. I was extremely hesitant buying one from the dealer that I couldn't ride first, only reason I did is because they had a good return policy (which you won't find with a private party sale).

Maybe see if he'd let you bring a battery charger with you. Hook it up, go out for lunch, and then come back and give it a try.
