05 - 1200c problems - should I expect anything else?
Well I have had to endure an eating spark plugs situation- after many atempts, the bike died - Bad crank sensor. Since new, the battery always seamed to discharge, I was stranded and towed by HOG (thank god for them) - turned out to be bad voltage regulator. Very same time puked a drive belt, was blamed on a stone but I refused to pay for a belt with 2200 miles on it. Broken crome rear heat sheild - I spot welded bracket back on now they do not want to replace it since I fixed it - but it does have a burn mark in the crome (we'll see). Now I find no oil in the bike after less than 150 miles (I religously check the oil) and dealer tells me this model has a valve guide issue. I have done everything the dealer suggests, including plunking down over 500 cold ones for the screamin eagle upgrades installed by them but now I am wearry and for some strange reason leary of riding the bike unless I'm interested in an adventure that will involve cell phone rescue. Is there anything else I need to look into to get this bike dependable so I can go ridding without worriing about getting stranded? I have owned the bike for 14 months - bought it brand new, followed all recomended service and even the folks at the dealership are getting sick of seeing me tow her in, but not sick enough to set me up with a loner till mine is fixed. Let me here it, I have gone to far to change my mind, I may as well do what is needed now.
RE: 05 - 1200c problems - should I expect anything else?
there is a New York State lemon law on all motor vehicales but the way it reads, is three times for the same problem - mine is always something different. I'm just wondering if there are any other problems that happen with the 05 models that I haven't incurred yet. So far the dealer has taken care of the problems and they do seem to be decent people but I am getting sick of dealing with a less than dependable ride.
RE: 05 - 1200c problems - should I expect anything else?
Unfortunately, yes you may be seeing some other problems. There's an ICM update to fix the speedo showing speed too high. There's a service bulletin dealing with rocker box leaks. And that screaming eagle stage 1. Well...........there's some problems with that too. The A/C has been getting holes in it and they have a replacement for it, but I'm not sure how well the replacement works or if it's fixed anything. The pipes might be problematic in 7K mi because some people have had them going bad. With the way things are going for you, you might have a brand new bike after all this. It seems like eventally they'll replace most of the parts on it. You really might want to look into getting a replacement via the lemon law.

Here's one right in the nads - looking into the lemon law for new york. Motorcycles are covered as of Sept. 1 2004 - ha! - picked up mine in July 1 1/2 months earlier (not covered). For those who have problems, check the laws in your state and it is either or 1) three times for the same repair or 2) thirty day out of service - now I know
RE: 05 - 1200c problems - should I expect anything else?
recieved a call back from the dealer, they recieved my e-mail and have contacted the motor company themselves concerning the situation. They also have the bike on the stand and are "tearing into it" right now. I had also left them a message, with a laundry list of other '05 1200c problems that I have found others have had and simply stated, this is it, fix everything and fix it this one last time, I also gave them a week to get me on wheels (mine or their's). The guy who called me from the dealer, is a personal friend, a great guy, whom I trust.
RE: 05 - 1200c problems - should I expect anything else?
Well here we are, Thursday 9/29, just recieved a call from my buddy Mike @ the dealership. Bike is currently being cleaned as the mechanical issues have been fixed. They rebuild the top end and relaced the valve guides, serviced the bike, updated the spedo, ordered a new crome rear exhaust sheild, looked into the rear brake nosie and did something to the front forks. It's ready to be picked up, but we are having huge thundersturms here today. Mike even had the bike inspected, no charge. I'm satisfied, but still wearry of the bike, time will tell.
RE: 05 - 1200c problems - should I expect anything else?
Ok couldnt wait, called Mike back and he told me to come on out - he'd stay late if necessary, got out there twitching thinking I'm going to get the bike, get on, ride off, then remember a question - wasn't so. Even though Mike was done for the day, he took the time to walk me through every thing they did and the parts list was 2 pgs long (mostly gaskets). She was shineier than I remembered and I couldn't be happier, even the service manager (Butch) was there to make sure I ws happy and they, along with me, hope wev'e got the demons kicked in the short hairs for good. Time will tell but I feel they set me up good, new rear exhaust cover had to be ordered and that's included for a grand total of NO CHARGE! Mc Derrmotts Harley, FortAnn, NY. They said they would, they did. Thanks to all of yall for your help, hopefully I won't be updating any disaters soon. Yes the rain stopped but the 30-60mph gust and the temp drop made for a COLD but enjoyable ride home - funny how gettin home is always 30-40 miles longer than the way ther.
