05 - 1200c problems - should I expect anything else?
The belt is not covered under warrenty. Since it is a wear and tear item, and debris could damage it, your going to be stuck with that one, unless your dealer is exceptional, they wont do squat. Thats just bad luck on your part. What exactly was the broken chrome rear heat shield? Where is it located? Do you mean belt guard?Or the exhaust heat shield? Show a pic? If a factory weld broke they SHOULD REPLACE that, I would insist that they do if I were you. Especially such a cheap part.
The top rocker box gaskets do have a new revised replacement part, I think this is already covered under the warrenty. Should be willing to replace no charge. The valve seals are known to have issues, best thing to do is to send your heads to an independant shop(Like www.nrhsperformance.com ) that specializes in XL motors, have them do a mild port and polish and replace the seals, locks and collars. At least you will gain some good hp from the work and your heads will be very reliable then. Are you seeing bluish smoke coming from the exhaust? Or do you smell alot of burnt oil? Good way to tell quickly if you do have a head problem. If you see alot of blue smoke, your burning oil, should have a compression and leakdown test performed to see what the problem is.
Overall the bike really is rock solid. Other than the bad luck on the voltage regulator and the belt you should be good to go. BTW, make sure that rear belt is properly adjusted. And a tip for you, its better to have the belt a bit looser than too tight. You never want your drive belt adjusted too tight.
