Thought about having the side covers and belt guard painted to match the bike but after having the paint scanned the guy said it would be pretty tough matching exactly and I might want to check with the dealership.
My nearest dealership sucks so I'm not going that route again...
Anyone recommend a chrome plating place that does good work ?
Do you like the chrome side pans or is that just to much ?
Why in the world did they leave these black any way ?
Have not chrome-plated any of my mods. I am assuming you don't want to pay for replacement chrome covers since you are considering plating. May be a viable options if the price it right. I bought my covers when I bought the bike from the dealership, but I now buy my harley stuff from the folks below since the prices are lower than the local dealer.
Thanks so much for the info, I can call to see what they have. Seems there were some changes in the 2014 models and most stuff I find doesn't fit. I thought I'd check into having my own plated over buying new because everything offered is Imported.
Always wondered if the imports hold up well ?
I expect you have more (competitive) options in The States, but up here, chrome-rs are expensive; so much so that often its significantly less expensive to buy a new part than to have an old one re-chromed. Aftermarket chrome-rs, it seems, mainly cater to the fastidious demands of restorers and collectors so thats the level of quality you typically get (and pay for), from them.
I think a paint matched side cover looks nice and flows with the bike better, imo. Might want to check another decent painter for matching. Here's my Sporty with the covers and belt guard.

That's a really nice color. Beautiful bike. I don't have to worry about my side covers as my bike is black, and so are the covers. But if I had a color, I'd like them to be paint matched also.

Very nice! Color-matching the covers really brings out the color of the bike. I like it.
On black bikes, I think black with chrome accents are nicer than blacked out bikes IMO...but it's a personal preference.
