Bike barely moves in first gear. High Rpm's but no movement when shifting. The bike rolls in first gear without the clutch lever pulled. I had an energy one extra plate kit installed last year when i did the hammer performance 1250 upgrade, so I am surprised it could of burned out already. Also, oil level was low and not sure if the transmission oil was changed when the clutch was changed. Before I order another clutch kit I was wondering if anyone had any advice or ideas. Thank you.
Before spending on new parts you need to diagnose the precise problem! Start by adjusting the clutch if you haven't tried that - it could be that simple! There are instructions in the Tech Trans section if you need them.
The picture doesn't tell us anything. You have to put full slack in the cable (i.e. adjust the cable housing to be as short as possible with that adjuster you pictured), then adjust it down at the clutch (backing it off at least 1/4 turn), then adjust the cable adjuster for 1/16" to 1/8" of free play where the cable housing goes into the clutch lever housing. See your service manual, it describes the procedure. You must do all of those steps in that order.
Where a lot of guys get into trouble is they install a new clutch, adjust it up properly, and then the clutch plates bed in and all their free play goes away and the clutch starts slipping. You have to keep an eye on the free play especially when the clutch is new, and make sure it doesn't go away on you. If the free play goes away and you don't readjust it, the clutch will get smoked.
did the same thing when i replaced my clutch.
Had to take a piece of bar stock, thread some 1/4 20 all thread rods, about 12" long.
Thread the rods into the primary case at about the 11 & 5 clock position.
drill 2 holes in bar stock to match. Then use nuts tighten the bar stock against the clutch compression tool, till you can remove the clip
