Default really, really stupid question.....

I have a really stupid question about installing a retrofit LED headlight bulb. I'm embarrassed to ask, and I am tempted to change my username because the question is so stupid. But....for anyone who has installed this bulb, please explain why it appears that I will have two male ends of a plug with nothing to plug them into. The plug on the bulb and the plug in the bucket....both male....god I'm an idiot.

As a fellow 2007 XL1200C owner, I just want to assure you there are at least 2 idiots on this forum, because I don't know the answer either. I haven't done any headlight work (yet). I only came into this thread because I couldn't resist the second "really" in the title.

My only thought is maybe there is a small pigtail or relay required? More details about the retrofit bulb may be useful. Really.

If there is a pigtail, or something else required, I'm not aware of it. This is what the bulb looks like. really, really stupid question.....-photo871.jpg

If there is a simple, obvious answer, I'm really really gonna delete my profile and pretend to be a newbie.

Well, the stock bulb is H4 if I'm reading right, and an example is this one here.

So if you're pulling a stock H4 bulb out, which is a male, it looks like the retrofit bulb you posted would plug right in.

That's what I'm seeing from here.

Not a stupid question as I would be stumped too....This is the LED I installed in several headlight buckets.

The bucket side should be a female...perhaps it has an adapter that converts to a male for some reason or the signal was split and there is another connector hiding somewhere.

How was it working before you attempted to install the LED?

I was always told the only stupid question is the un-asked question.

really, really stupid question.....-photo50.jpg OK, so the wires that come out of the bucket into the headlight have a male connector. Right? If I disconnect it then I have two male connectors. Or have I completely lost my mind?

You need to unplug the connector by squeezing the tabs on the side and pull them apart. The plug that is coming out of the headlight bucket is female.
