I've always been bummed I couldn't have kept my 1200R instead of having to trade it in on my big twin. However, as time has passed, I've saved up a few bucks and thought, "Sure would be nice to have a used Sporty to commute on,ride despite sketchy weather forecasts, have as a spare ride for bikeless friends, and not get too tweaked if it wasn't showroom clean all the time. Well, today I made my weekly rounds to local dealers (just to look, Dear!) and low and behold, a 2006 silver 883 with loads of extra's and very low miles. Asked my bud in salesif I could take her out to play and (after I test rode my first sport bike, the new Suzuki Bandit [sm=smiley11.gif]) I took the Harley for a cruise. Kee-ripes, what fun! I'd forgotten what a downright bitchin' little scooter that is. The 883 won't pin your buns to the rear fender, but as a solid, agile, reliable, simple (carburator, natch'), fun, American air cooled V-twin it can't be beat. I just may have to buy it. Even if my Fat Boy does get a little less exercise.
Helmets off to all you guys and gals on 883's. What a fun motorcycle!
I could not agree more. I love Sportsters.. Only ever ridden the old 900 and 1000 models.. Never been on an 883 or 1200. One of these days I'll have another "Sporty". Sorry to the Sportster crowd that hates that term... But I use it as a term of endearment.
I'll never forget quite a few years ago, after retiring from the real world,I was selling metrics and at the time I owned and rode a brand new Gold Wing. An older customer bought a used Yamah 350 from me and since he hadn't yet taken the MSF class asked me if I would ride it to his home and he would follow me in his car. I did and what an eye opener that was. Damn, that little thing was fun. That memory always stuck with me and that is probably one of the several reasons I ride a Sportster today.
I love my Sportsters,if my 89' doesn't sell in the next month and I'm caught up from switching jobs I'm chopping that up for my solo rider & my 06' is starting to look my tour bike with a windshield I got for basically nothing and my bags on it with the Sundowner and backrest my wife is actually going out with me now.I ride in the hills and Mt's of PA/WV and both of us on there it does fine and is plenty fast enough for the twisties and what not.I may add the 1200 gearing to my 06' since it's set up for trippin' now[8D]
I've been looking at buying a bagger for a while now. But, without a doubt I would have to trade in my Sporty to do it....nothing stopping me....except I just can't bring myself to let go of my 1200!!!! Crazy huh?I've pretty much made up my mind that I'm going to finish paying off the 1200 and keep it when I get my bagger.....that's how much I love my Sporty! [sm=happy046.gif]
