Default 08' xl1200c 19" wheel & tire

I'm brand new to biking and I just bought my 2008 xl1200c and first time riding and riding it I ran into a curb and bent the original 21" lace spoke rim, I think.

I need a new front tire anyways and I think I prefer a 19" wheel. I can get a used 2014 883 iron 19" 13 spoke wheel P/N 47875-09A on Ebay that I like and think is compatible. Harley has 19" wheels they list for my bike, but not tires?

1. Is that wheel compatible 47875-09A?
2. Can I use the Dunlop 401F 100/90H-19 tire?
3. Or do I have to use the 401F 90/90-19?

HD does not make figuring this all out easy that's for sure!
I would appreciate any input or recommendations.

1 - Yes
2 - Yes - but the 401 is a mediocre tire in my book. I like Metzeler 880/888 tires better.
3 - No

I swapped the 21" front wheel for a 19" on the bike in the sig pic.
Much better handling and better tire mileage with the 19.

Welcome from NC and to the forum KellyAnne! And sorry about your mishap. I would ask for more close-up pics of the wheel to be sure of no damages or dings.

No change in wheel bearing going to the newer wheel?

Not if you stay with a wheel from a model year with the same axle and wheel bearing size. As I believe is the case with what the OP is looking at, 08up = 25mm axle.

You can put any 2000-later narrow-glide wheel on that 2008. If using a 2000-07 wheel you simply use the bearing shim/spacer included in the installation kit or buy the shim/spacer separately

Default Thanks

Thank you all so much. I have been sifting through these posts for the past two weeks and I actually had a pretty good idea who on here would know the answers I needed and who would respond, so thank you all so very much for taking the time out to help us naive novices! I really do appreciate it.

I have been fretting trying to figure this all out with the 3/4" axle, 1" axle and 25 mm axle. It is much more economical to go with a used wheel, but they are mostly on Ebay and I don't want to buy the wrong wheel and be stuck with it. Now, I will feel more confident about what I'm talking about when I approach a cycle shop about doing the work.

So, if I get a wheel 2000-2007, do I just have to get the installation kit and that will accommodate for the different bearings or installation kit and have bearings changed? That will open up other options for me then.

Also, it's kinda weird, there is no visible damage to the 21" original OEM Lace-spoked wheel, but it definitely doesn't roll straight? Who knows? I knew when I bought it that I wanted to switch the wheel out anyways.

I went from stock 19 cast (100/90-19 dunlop) to aftermarket 21 spoke (90/90-21 Metzler) with 25mm axle and same width wheel....just be sure you have an array of 25mm spacers in order to properly fit the wheel on your bike. Changing from spoke to cast may have different widths. You are not restricted to the brand and type of tire...so you don't have to go with Dunlop.

One question - is the 2008 XL1200C a narrow-glide or mid-glide...my 2011 XL1200L is a narrow-glide?

Welcome to the forum.

Yes

When you get a Front Wheel 25mm bearing installation kit, it will come with the Shim/spacer that will allow you to use the earlier wheels on 08-later bikes

My recommendation would be to buy the Shim/spacer only, re-use your existing center spacer sleeve (or buy another), and get better quality bearings.

if you need any part#s, LMK

Welcome to the forum.

Don't need any special spacers for his application
