I'm still looking for the right sportster so i haven't done it.
That said i'd recommend going this route http://www.paughco.com/2008-catalog/...-springers.pdf

Not the cheapest way to go but everyone i've talked to has been pleased with paughco ride.

I still want to do the same mod on my 2012 XLC, but with an offset big-twin springer repop, the one they used in 1946-1948.

I still don't know if the fork stem would fit into my frame neck, never got the right answer...

The first line of that ad reads, "will fit any bike - just not Sportys."

I've looked everywhere I can find online, and for a 2004 on Sporty, nobody makes an off the shelf answer for it that I can find. The fork lock and turning radius aren't compatible with springer front ends. You might be able to find someone to custom fabricate something, but you'd prolly be better off finding a used springer and buying that.

Later!

I got no idea about those front ends but the add says "not just sportys" your reading it wrong.

From paughco's add .......

Wide Springers With Tapered Oval Rear
Legs For 2004-Up Sportsters And Dynas
These Springer fork assemblies come fully assembled and bolt-on to
all 2004-up Sportsters and Dyna Glides. Use the 3" over stock length
Springer on Dyna Glides and standard height Sportsters, and use the stock
length Springer on Sportster models that came lowered from the factory. Please specify the style
of top clamp you want..... with ears (for dog bone style risers) or without ears (for Glide style risers).
All of these Springers can be ordered with twisted or Wishbone front legs (see facing page).
