I have a 1996 Harley Davidson Sportster. I was just wonderg what front end should a guy go with when putting on a springer front end. I am trying to achieve the old school bobber look, also is there any problems or areas of concern that you guys/gals can forsee me running into?. also throw up some pics, of Sporty's with springers if you run that style of front end!.
Long Live The Sportster!
Checkout http://www.flyritechoppers.com/Pg/FRCParts.htmlor http://www.redneckengineering.com/springer.htmand ask either of them about fitment for a sporty. Flyrite's are on sale right now if they have one to fit. Never had one personally but really like em and might try one someday. I will say that I've always heard springers with rear sprung bikes handle funny vs. those on rigid frames.
I love the springer look. Powdercoat, chrome, I don't care. I love the retro look it gives. A springer with whitewalls reminds me of something you'd see out of the 40's and 50's. I have heard that the springer front end is, "bouncy." But I wouldn't know because I've never been on one. HD could build it and call it a sprinster.... LOL
To elaborate: the only thing negative that I ever heard about putting a springer on a stock swingarmed frame, is that it'll be too bouncy with the rear suspension coupled with a springer. I was told that a shock on the springer like the late model HD softail springer has will help, but still bouncy.
Now, this is what I have heard, I have no real experience with it.
Maybe it's the very different rearsuspension styles...?
This was my last Sportster a 2003 with a not so good DNA -2" on it.
My new one will be a 1250 with every possible option to pull an estimated 105rwp at the wheel. but well see about that once its all together. Better Moto Irin front end too.
Nice thread resurrection...not a record breaker but impressive none the less. Still no prizes for you. A solid 3rd place finish though...you're on the podium lol. These guys that have never riden a springer but yet they're so quick to trash something they know nothing about lol. Guess I'm lucky to have survived owning a springer before.

I have a 1984 ironhead I custom built & raked it 45 degrees with a custom made 200 mm wide tire swing arm I fabricated & it handled & rides amazing with a springer front end..
