Default 883/1200 Conversion. How much $$$

A local dealer here quoted me $2400 to install the HD 1200 conversion on my '06 883 today. I think this is a bit much since the conversion kit (pistons, jugs and heads) only costs $1,000. What have others paid or been quoted?

Do it yourself!!! It's not that hard, just be sure to get a nice torque wrench. I did the 1250 kit from nhrs, and used some stock 1200 heads I got cheap on ebay, only changed heads because my 883 heads were somewhat banged up cosmetically from the previous owner, otherwise I would of had a head job done on those heads. I did the domed pistons and also installed andrews n4 cams as well. Total cost ran me about $1000, and I love it. Did all the work myself, pretty simple I must say.

If they are quoting me $2400 I will probably just do it my self. I mean it should just be taking the gas tank and exhaust off. Then pop the jugs and put the new ones on...or do I have to pull the engine off the bike.

I will be getting a hd manual as soon as my stealer gets some in stock.

Includes cams, and ignition, too, I guess? Also Stage 1 and rejet? You need the stage 1 and rejet! If it include all that, the price is in line. Otherwise not. My quote for this was $2,550.

Then I redid the gearing also - to match 1200 gearing. This is also a must in my opinion.

You can get them to come down by doing the basic. Only cylinders, pistons, Stage 1 and rejet. Probably do that for about $1,600.

I gave $110 for the pistons, $40 for a full set of gaskets, and $183 to have my 883 jugs bored. I probably spent another $40 on tools I did not have. No head, cam, jet, or gear change. Of course more is always better, but I am pretty happy with what I ended up with.

So I checked NHRS and they have a 883 to 1212 conversion for $500 which includes jug honing, pistons and gaskets. I may look into this but then I have to send my jugs to colorado for a week or two...
