My first of what I assume will be many questions about my new ride...
The bike is a 2011 Forty-Eight. I want to use a RAM bar clamp mount but it comes with M8 bolts and in searching the web I've found multiple answers so I want to make sure I buy the right bolts the first time.
Can anybody tell me what size the bolts are? The mount comes with:
(1 QTY) M8 x 55 bolt (1.25 thread pitch)
(1 QTY) M8 x 60 bolt (1.25 thread pitch)
(1 QTY) M8 x 65 bolt (1.25 thread pitch)
I'm a bit confused! I have a RAM kit which came with everything needed, but is held together by a U-bolt and nuts. Why do you want to buy separate bolts? If you let us know which kit you have that would help us answer your query.
That's better, now I understand! I use one similar to that (different brand) on my Buell. You need an American threaded screw, 5/16" x 18 tpi, not the metric ones you seem to have. They are similar in diameter to each other, but with the correct thread. As for length, you'll have to work that out I'm afraid, although that should be pretty easy. The tip of the stock screw probably reaches the bottom of the threaded hole it fits into, which you can confirm by looking up at the front right-hand one. Your new screw needs to reach that far, with the ball and spacer etc in place.
As a point of interest, depending on what you use the ball for, you may find your speedo is partly obscured. I found that installing my ball on the right-hand side was better, so I could see the lower speeds on my speedo.
I'm using that one with the X-mount for my phone and being left handed its better for me on the left side. I'll probably swap the short arm for a longer one that twists in the middle so I can get it in a better position. I'm ordering another ball for the other side for a cup holder. What I like best is that when the mount is removed there's just the ball left behind and no chance of scratching the bars.
It`s hard enough to just stay out of trouble with a cage driver already . Why in the world do you need to look at your phone .
You cant answer it on the bike, you cant use navigation cause if you need to look there your almost dead already.
Pockets, remember them.Paper map or google map BEFORE you ride.
Try to stay alive to ride
Same question here, which bolt length did you go for?!
5/16-18 thread, 2 1/4 Allen head
what kind of bike? Originally, I bought the standard size arm and ended up being too long to fit well within the bit well keystone bars. Then bought the 1 short arm and fits perfectly.
