Default Burley kit

New be saying hello, well I just purchased my 1st Harley, a 2002 XL 1200 Sporty. I'm a short guy 5'2" weighing 160 lbs . My feet don't quite fit flat to the ground... Only the ***** of my feet hit. I've been reading all kinds of reviews on the Burly rear and front lowering kit....some good and some bad. I will be riding a few times with the wife 2 up. Is there a big difference between the progressives kit and the Burley's. Now I don't take possession of the bike till this coming Weds. 9/28. And am very excited. I do need to have her lowered, want to do it right the first time instead of having to change out the suspension later on. I live in Cape Coral Fl. The SW area, so there not a lot of mountain roads or hills. I do have 13 yrs experience riding up in NJ hills on mostly BSA's and Triumph's ( 650's ) can anyone give me some advice on this subject? Thank you, and I hope to be on this forum quite frequently.

Well, Burly is an offshoot of Progressive, so a comparison would really depend on what Progressives youre looking at. Ive ridden a bike with both the Slammer shocks and the Stilletos and they ride pretty good. I havent ridden a sporty with any of the higher end Progressives so I cant attest to them.

great! the price point on the Slammer kit is real easy. I wanted to order it before I got the scoot so I could put the kit on asap, but was worried they wouldnt be any good. Did you have a problem with the kick stand?

I had burly slammers (lowering shocks 10.5" and fork springs). It allowed me to plant but you may have clearance issues. I had to adjust the rear wheel so the right side did not rub the tire. I also scraped my pipes making sharp rights and scraped my frame on speed bumps. Never went 2-up on the burlys so can't comment on clearance with a passenger. You will also need to shorten your jiffy stand.

Ride was head jarring with the burlys when roads were bad. I am also vertically challenged but wanted a more comfortable ride so went with 11.5" SG air/oil shocks. I am also using the lower profile mustang wide tripper solo with backrest and passenger pillon to help me plant. I increased my boot soles height to help with planting. With the SG air shocks, you can adjust the psi when increasing or decreasing weight.

Welcome to the forum. A lot of info on here to help you along the way.

Another option is lowering blocks to keep the stock shock travel but sounds like you you made up your mind.

Cool...just watch the clearance when going 2-up. Solo is no problem. My sig pic is with burlys front and back. And like I mentioned, you may need to shorten your jiffy stand to 1" under since your bike will be sitting more upright with the stock jiffy....and I know of bikes that tipped over with strong gusts and uneven ground. Here is a thread if you decide to change it out.... https://www.hdforums.com/forum/sport...or-spring.html Good luck.
