Default removing the rear fender bolt to install saddlebag brackets.

I am trying to install saddlebag brackets on my 2016 Sportster Seventy Two. Can anyone clue me in on how to remove the fender bolt, as the bolt and nut are turning and there is barely enough room to get your fingers into the space.

the bolts know you are up to no good.. putting saddle bags on a 72.... the audacity.

use a socket on the outside and a wrench on the inside. be ready for falling clips. don't want to loose those

Use a jack under the frame to lift the fender off the tire. It's your bike so don't get offended by others because you wanted to ugly up that 72. Just think you can now post in the Sportster Baggers thread.

It's "in the bag" . . . I just can't remember which one. . . .

Okay let's stop trash-talking sporster baggers lol....have to agree the 72s and 48s look a lot better without bags, but beats wearing a backpack.

IIRC, I used a shorty wrench. I got a SAE and Metric set of Husky brand, from Home Depot. That was some years ago, and it seems The Depot has cut back on their mechanics' tool selection, since.
Check the assembly diagram for your model bike's rear fender, HERE
www.shopronniesharleydavidson.com
Click on the "OEM Harley Davidson Partsfinder" in the top bar of their web site.
I'd rather be punched in the back of the head, than wear a back pack on my putt. Pics, when you're finished, please.

the rear bold has that clip so only need the torx bit for the outside, the one closer to the seat is like 1/2 or a 7/16?? I always just stuck an open end on it and it seemed to work on my 72.

interested in what bags your installing...hard? soft? are you relocating the turn lamps/brake?

Default saddlebags

I am installing leather throw over saddlebags (91008-82C) that a friend gave me along with the saddlebag support brackets.

Thanks to everyone that responded about removing the fender bolt to install saddlebag brackets on my sportster seventy two. The short stubby wrench worked quite well.
