Default intake help and some other stuff

Ok I have read a lot of post and what not done some research, but I am still lost I am looking to do stage one on my 883 right now and do the 1200 this winter....I have been looking and I think that I want the arlen ness big sucker kit and I have found where I am gonna buy it. but is that and the frocewinder and the SE my only choices??????? I cant really find much else and I want the most bang for the buck, also where can I get a cover for the big sucker will something like a S&S work or is it type specific.... Last question are the SE plugs worth buying???? Or should I go buy some denso's or something ??? thanks for ne help

Unless you are going to Stage 2 w/cams etc. the stock ignition if fine. The Champion plug xref # RA8HC (same as HD plug).

As for A/C's, NRHS makes the "Hurricane Flow" that maintains the ham can look if you want to keep the stock look & it flows better than the SE.

and yes I am gonna go way beyond stage 2 with my little scoot. plan on doing heads, 1200 conversion, cams, a bunch of other stuff but now I just wanna get her running good for the summer all that comes this winter. so when I replace the plugs the champions are my best bet. I think that I wanna go with arlen ness but what cover do I go with? will any cover that is round work or is it specific to the arlen ness?nn

The big issue on air covers is allowing more air to get in to the carb. Any way that you can do this safely will be of benefit to the engine. The problem is you want clean, filtered air. Filters will restrict the flow of air to the carb as well. When you can reach this happy medium, you will be ahead of the game. Now, if you are not concerned about engine longevity, you can open the cover up or, even remove it. You will increase the flow. The issue there is will you get a steady flow of air into the carb. Some covers are designed to scoopin more air for the carb. This is where you run in to differing opinions on which one is better than the other. The same holds true for the filters available for them.

For plugs I use the champion RA8HC's, cheap and available at any auto store. I've never heard any proof of higher performance from expensive plugs other than claims made by plug manufacturers themselves. Iridium plugs will last longer, they handle heat better, but other than that there's really nothing special about them. I change my plugs each season out of habit, so I have no need for longer lasting iridium plugs. There is an exception for race specific plugs, but even with that, it generally comes down to the same plugs but in a higher heat range. I have a bunch of buddies that are hardcore into drag racing at the local speedway, and even with those guys, they pretty much use whatever plugs they have readily available, NGK, Champion, denso, hd, whatever, and with that they still use the standard line of plugs, non of the fancy metals.

By the way, my current setup is a 1250 domed piston 10.5:1 c.r. using stock 1200 heads and andrews n4 cams, dragtron II A/C (finally an aircleaner that I haven't seen on over 20 other bikes) with a K&N element and a mikuni hsr42 carb. I still run my stock ignition, but eventually I'll upgrade that.
