I agree and disagree. If you change your oil regularly, I don't see any advantages of synth. In Texas where we get 115 degrees on a steady basis, oil breaks down faster. Even more with air cooled engines. Up north, same. Condensation forms and you get oil foaming with very cold conditions. Every 3k will keep all the stuff inline.

Just a thought.

I Just changed mine last weekend @ 3500 miles with Mobile 1 V-Twin 20/50 in both oil cavities (crank and tranny/primary/clutch). Don't break a sweat worrying about 3K or 5K, I shoot for 4K, a good compromise between manufactures recommendation of 5K and street talk. Most importantly is the type of riding your doing, mileage is not the only indicator. Rallies with alot of stop-and-slow driving, dirt roads, around town vs. freeway, temperature, etc., affect change intervals as well.I would be sure to include a K&N oil filter as opposed to a paper element as well, about $5 adder but worth the peace of mind...

I've used Syn3 since my 1K service and have 4k on my bike now. I plan to wait another 2K before I change it again. I may go to Mobil 1 then also...

I did let my dealer do the 1K service as a show of good faith on the bike - but from here on I plan on maintaining the bike myself.

I will change my oil filter in the next few weeks (about every 2500 miles) and also the primary fluids with some of the HD Forumula +.

There are definate advantages to Syn oils. Dino oil is refined from crude oil which is made up of numerous sized Hydrocarbon molecules and untold number of other impurities which break down and can create acids in the oil. No matter how good the refining process, it can not eliminate all the bad stuff.

Syn oil is manufactured from as pure a carbon and hydrogen sources as possible to make a very consistent sized hydrocarbon molecule, thus the properties are much more consistant and impurities are almost non existant.
