I have a 2005 883 custom, I rode the bike all day sunday with no problems. Today I went out to clean the bike and found 3 bolts broke off atthe rear belt pullie. All the bolts wers broke in the same place, and the bolt holes were rounded out pretty bad. What could have caused this? I always check all the bolts i can on the bike every couple weeks. The back rim is solid aluminum. I think I should buy a new or used rim instead of trying to fix this one. Anyone have one?
The rear belt puley.Of courase it vould only happen now. My dad bought his first bike and we were going to go ride the blue ridge parkway back houe in east tennessee. I need some magic to hace this bike ready by sunday
hate to say it, but this happened to my brother in law. we tried to overbore and tap, but we ruined the pulley. he replaced it. with an extra set of hands and a lift you can do it yourself. no real hassle except aligning the rear wheel. i will email you the pages if you don't have the manual. i'm sure the 883 is the same as the 1200 on this issue.
Do you want to get it straight or want me to lie to you? It's due to hard down shifting. Sorry! Down shifting at the wrong speeds will break those bad boys faster than a Busa runs.
Is it the pulley that is damaged or the wheel? If onlythe pulley is damaged why would you replace the wheel?Although it may be tough to get the broken bolts out of it.
We'll I got the rim off today, first time doing it. I have a car jack and a 2 x 8 under the bike and the front end is tied off to the rafters in my garage. But it works. The pulley is in good shape the rim has three broke bolts in it, So I;m going to take it to a machine shop to have them get the bolts out and everything should be good. I do need to know whatto tork all my bolts down too, if anyone has this info, or any advice i may need. Thanks for the help, and support
