This is a question for an upcoming purchase. I plan to buy a A/C soon and have heard about spray from breather bolts. (something I don't want) So my question; would a discrete breather eliminate this similar to a catch can or is a catch can the way to go?
My plan is to get the HiFlow 587 Air Cleaner System for my 48. Thanks!
Personally i have the 587 with breather bolts. I have no leakage, but have been contemplating the catch can just for cleaner look
Thanks! I am concerned with looks as well. Two days ago I had to google catch cans just to see what one looked like. But still not very certain how I feel about the way they look on bikes. They were installed a lot of different ways and some weren't too appealing. Still considering one though, in a performance aspect.
I started with the breather bolts and never could completely get rid of the misting so I made my own catch can from a black powder can and still had slight mist from its vents even after adding 2 more vents to the top. I ended up building my own discrete breather system and its fine.

I dont really remember, I took it off about a year ago and its been sitting on my bench. IIRC, about every 200 miles or so. More when doing short hops on cold days. Most of it was water vapor due to condensation. Very little oil.
I also added filter media to the top of the screen inside and it helped.

they are Sintered Bronze Breather Vent 1/8"
bought on ebay. I was going to add a pet **** to the bottom to drain easier. Now the bottom cap is loctited
in place and I just unscrewed from the top piece and dump.
It was fun to make

I used breather bolts with my last two ACs - Outlaw 587 and Kuryakyn Velociraptor. It had minimal misting. I clean my bike after every ride so build up is not an issue. Now I am using a Arlen Ness Deep Cut Inverted AC with a discrete EBS.
I thought of using the catch-can by DK since it would eliminate any misting from bolts or dripping from the filter but decided to go with a customized discrete EBS so mine can't be seen unless you look behind the AC. To do this, Devin had to fabricate an adapter to plug the existing holes that route back to the AC and re-route for use with the discrete. If I used the catch-can, i would be able to see it below the AC....like how awilson has his set-up.
