Default My rear shocks arrived today! Ohlins HD145E (S36E)

Thanks to Fuel Moto, a pair of rear OHLINS HD145E shocks arrived today for my 2017 XL883N.

This are damn near almost too nice to install, but they are going on tomorrow!

Yeah they are expensive, but the quality is absolutely superb. I spent weeks reading different reviews, installations, and other documentation on these. So it was a no brainer to just bite the bullet and do it right the first time with what my budget would allow.

Overall i'm very pleased with the purchase so far especially dealing with Fuel Moto. Those guys/girls are excellent to deal with. Plus the price wasn't bad at all either.

Also, I went ahead and ordered the RICOR Intiminators for the front and I'm going to retain my factory front springs for now.

I'm going to enjoy the bike as it is with these modifications for a while because I want to start saving for the Hammer 1275.

Its been important to get the supporting modifications out of the way before going straight to the 1275 kit, this way I can have a somewhat unique 883 in a way. Atleast around where I live anyway.

Just look at em!

I have the OHLINS instructions as well as the 2016+ Sportster Service Manual, but I was wondering if there were any tips/tricks prior to install or setting these up with the spanner wrench, that wouldn't be covered in the instructions per se?

Use a big atv style jack under your frame. I actually used a scissor style jack under the rear wheel to help with alignment etc no point mucking up a new bolt when you can just light the bolt holes up perfectly with a few twists.

shocks look great.

Ohlins is always a good decision. I've had the same ones on my '08 1200R for a long time. You get what you pay for. Congrats!

I've been looking for a good hydraulic motorcycle jack, do you have a preference (or anyone for that matter) that works well with a sportster?

This is how she sits currently.

Last one I used was just a basic crasftsman setup.

I want to get one for my own garage. It would make life a lot easier working on the vaquero. Not going to lie, I would also use it for cleaning lol.

I've had Ohlins on my Glide for many years. Set sag, then ride them for 500 miles, it will take about that long for them to bed down, after which you can start fine tuning them if you wish.

Best lift on the market. I have one. Expensive but you get what you pay for.

Appreciate the input on the jacks. I've looked at the JSjack and you're right it's probably the best out there from what people have stated/reviewed. May have to try and get one when the budget allows.

I may just take the shocks and bike up the road and have my local shop throw them on right quick. Really want to start putting some miles on them!

but then again I prefer doing this type of job myself.
