Persistent clutch issues
I've been having persistent clutch issues all week, which culminated in me having to duck-walk my bike back home after the clutch cable snapped on me two blocks away from home.
I ordered a new cable and set out to replace it this morning.
I opened the derby, removed the ramp, unscrewed the adjustment screw completely and... the clutch cable was totally ok but lo and behold, this whole thing fell off into my hand:
Is it supposed to just fall off like this? From the jagged/rough/sharp edge, it seems it broke off from a bigger part, and that would be why I have no clutch function despite a fully functioning cable, ramp and adjustment screw.
How do I fix that?
This is what I saw inside the clutch if that's any help:
Thank you for your help!
hhmm... something has failed in there
where these guys still in there?:
may need to pull the cover and clean it all out.
- ,
- clutch cable,
- and gasket pack time, maybe.

Your throwout bearing has failed.
The inner race (or what is left of it) is where you are seeing the sharp edge. this is normally a "U" shaped piece and goes inside the bearings that you can see in your second picture. Failure mode can be debated, but the inner side of that race is gone. Either due to faulty manufacture or a mal-adjusted clutch causing the bearing to be loaded full time.
The shards that Cvaria is highlighting are most likely the remains of the inner race.
You need a new piece that contains the throwout bearing (part number 2 here)

You will need to remove the snap ring (#22) to remove the part with the outer race.
Change the bearing, the primary fluid (flush it out good) adjust your clutch, and you should be back on the road.
make sure you follow the proper adjustment procedure so as to not side load the bearing when the clutch is released. this will lead to premature failure.

Good catch! I didn't even notice any of that, Thanx!
Yup, the clutch adjustment screw was faithfully holding on to them. It's just that deeper inside, nothing was holding the other end of the adjustment screw.
