Got a recall in the mail yesterday from H-D about the fuel switch saying that a defective fuel switch was intalled on 2005 carb models of the Sporty, Dyna and something else(cant remember). This causes the fuel to run through the reserve tank even if the switch is just set to on so when you run out of gas and switch over to reserve there is nothing left in the tank.
yeah i had it switched out already, just schedule a time with the dealership. the reserve and on are reversed, so if ya it on the on position, you really running gas from the reserve, leaving you without one. pretty silly.

Anyone else get this yet?
There must be a serial number or date range on the 2005's with that defect because I did run out of gas once in the "on" position and when I switched to reserve, it fired up just fine. Do you recall if the notice limited the bikes affected to a date-range of manufacture or serial number?
The salesman that I bought my bike from has been riding Harley's for many years. He gave me many tips, one of the best was to practice finding the fuel petcock while rolling. You don't want to be fumbling around and looking down trying to find it when you're running out of gas in heavy traffic.
I've run low a couple of times, I can find mine blindfolded.
The switch on my '05 1200C seems to work just fine. I reset my trip odometer at fill up and generally hit reserve between 175 - 200 miles. I've also learned how to switch on the roll...I haven't received any type of recall notice yet.
