For the 883 87 is the recommended octane. Unless that changed that in 07 due to the Fuel Injection, and I wouldn't think it would be necessary to change octane just due to EFI versus carb.
This brings up... is there a knock sensor that retards the timing, like in modern cars? I burn 91 in my '07 1200R, did not think about trying 87 or 89. In modern cars the timing will adjust to thefaster-burning 87fuel. If there's no knock sensor, then I'd say just don't hammer on it for a full tank of 87-octanegas. Though - you could see what happens if you do (listen for knock and back off the throttle if you get it).
cheers

I wonder if adding a certain amount of stp or something of that nature would be recommended? Like a few ounces each tank - that could go along way and save paying those premium prices? Better / worse???
Seems like a good thread to bring this up without cluttering up the forum.
dont worry about it , I live in a rural area and I have to burn what ever is avalible , im lucky to find 90 octane and more than likely it will be 87 or 89 . if 87 octane is going to cause a motor to blow I would think mine would be toast with 21,000 miles plus.
