Default Pipe Installation

Hello everyone,
I went ahead did the plunge, I orderd a set of V&H short shots for my bike, 1200c After reading up on the pipes and hearing sound clips that some of you posted ( Thanks Guys for posting those sound clips)
Has anyone installed them by themselfs? Is it a major job or can the average grease monkey do It? Is there anything I must be aware of so I don't make the same mistake maybe others have had?
And what effect of getting rid of the crossovers ? will this damage my bike?
I have also orderd a jet kit and a K&N free flow filter ,I would take the bike to a shop and let a pro do the jet kit and tune and adjust everything
I'am just trying to save some labor by putting on the pipes myself.
any advice would be greatfull.
Thanks ENO50

Hey eno50, I installed a set of shortshot on my 07 1200c last week. It's a piece of cake. You will probably need a torx t-30 socket and a flex ratchet may help. I reused the old gaskets , they worked just fine. I was short the o-ring pliers which would of eased the install. They took a little getting used to compared to the stock pipes. But after a couple of rides , you'd have to pry them from me[sm=badbadbad.gif]You'll be happy with them.

To avoid mistake, read the manual carefully and have the proper tools ready, it isn't rocket science, you can do it.
The crossover pipe reserves some exhaust back pressure, although you may lose some mid torque but many people have Short shots without a problem. To learn how to re-jet, click here.

Thanks for the info,in link on jet installation it informs that the 04's are setup a little richer and may need a different jet or may not need to change it at all,I just bought a stage 1 jet kit for 2004 -to 2007 so I hope it is the right one to use.
also on the pipes how tight do you need to tighten the header pipes to the jugs? I may have to go and find a torque wrench. or just snug them
up?

If this is not the first time you pull wrenches, you know what tight is tight. If you don't have confidence, get a torque wrench, it is cheap and sure you need it in the future. For the jet kit, you have to find one for your bike, I believe 883 and 1200 have different jet size if I remember right. 07 is fuel injected.
