Ok, I tried this post in the "Road Trips" section of the Forum. Evidently all the folks that check in there are out on a trip. So, I thought I'd give it a try in the "Good Ole Reliable" Sportster section:
I'm planning a road trip to Milwaukee, WI. I've been there many many times, so I already know where I can get into mischief once I'm there. I'm planning to take US 41 from Nashville up to Chicago, and Terre Haute looks like a good place to stop, probably early afternoon, and spend the evening.
What, if anything, is interesting to do in Terre Haute? Mostly, I'm looking for places with good food, cold beer, and fun.
Hi Sporty Pig,
I am a native Hoosier, but no longer live there, but I did live about 50 miles south of Terre Haute. You might want to contact the following:
Yeah, but I've made this trip once in a cage going through Indy, boring as hell. I don't mean Indy is boring, that's a fun town. I'm trying to avoid the interstate. It would be much quicker to take the interstate and come through Indy, but then I'd probably just blast on and make the entire trip in one day. From Louisville to Chicago on the interstate is nothing but flat corn fields, and this trip is as much about the ride as it is the destination.
So what road are you coming into TerreHaute on. Indiana is nothing but flat roads until you get into Southern Indiana. TerreHaute to IL is about the most boring road I've ever been on. I think they actually cut down the trees to make it even more boring
I'm planning to ride US 41 all the way from Nashville to Chicago. I know all of Indiana is flat, but I though US 41 HAD to be better than the interestate.
I used to drive the 41/63 up to Chicago, Terre Haute is pretty much the biggest "city" until you get up closer to the IL/IN border. Flat and plenty of cornfields! Does have a smell, so hold your nose.
stop in evansville instead lots to do there river boat , fine dining, and hootie bars, when are you passing through I only live 50 miles west of evansville and if it is not on a day I have to work I would atleast treat ya to some hot wings at hooters.
oh yeah I have spent the night in terre haute , the only time I ever contemplated slitting my wrist.
