Default Harley 48 Customization

Hey friends,

I currently own a 2012 Harley 48. I've had it since new. I've done some random customization but i have some big plans for it this winter while it's in the garage. I want to remove the fenders completely, raise the tank, lower or replace the handlebars, and upgrade to a springer seat. A few questions on the below and would love your input. Looking around i see that most people just cut their fenders. I love that look but not exactly what i want; however, i do understand there are some downsides to not having a fender when it's wet/muddy.

Fenders:

I know the process of removing the front and rear fender, but i'm not too sure on what is the best way to relocate the taillights, shocks, and license plate. Any good suggestions/builds on how to do this?

Seat:

I went to a dealership and almost bought a springer seat (black) a couple years ago but realized it was $300 for the seat and $2-300 for the mounting kit. Any cheaper options out there or suggestions from the forum?

Lastly, i was hoping to get some side saddle bags that blot into where the passenger peg goes. Figured i don't need them anymore with the fender removal. My biggest question is i only find them for the left side. Do you know if they manufacture them for the right side as well?

Appreciate any insight the community can offer. Thanks!

We did a complete makeover on a 48 a year or so ago...including most of what you mentioned above.

Here is a link to the thread where we go thru, in detail, with lots of photos and explanation, what we did. I think you will find it very helpful.

Here's a LINK to some good Solo Seat options that are quality AND good pricing.

Here are a couple of photo's of the 48 that may give you some ideas. Most of the parts on it can be had at this LINK.

I just remembered, we made a couple of vids on it too-

Apologies for the late response. Been busy and digesting everything you sent. This answers all of my questions and gave me some great ideas on how to deal with the lights and license plates. As well as some other customization ideas. This will be my winter project so i appreciate it.

For the stealth driving lights. What is the plate you put behind it? I am searching for it on your site but cannot find it. Curious what it is is called or if you just custom made it.

Thanks!

Looks like you have a good plan in place to make it your own. Feel free to call or write with any questions.

We got the number plate (and sticker for it) off ebay. There are quite a few vendors that you can get them from.

Here's one- http://www.ebay.com/itm/3-BLACK-OVAL...item2823b18440

And there are tons of folks that will do Custom labels to put on them. Here's just one of them- http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Cust...item35c331fa22

Kevin

Last question. For those stealth headlights, do they have an actual high beam/low beam that works with the switch? Or is it like a sport bike where one turns on for dim, and then the other light (which is angled up) clicks on with the switch?

Thanks again and apologies for all the questions!

No problem at all on the questions...

The way we hooked ours up was as follows:

One light pointed slightly lower than the other one. That lower one would be the only one that came on normally.

Then when we hit the high beam switch the second one (pointed slightly higher) would come on, and we also kept the other one on. So on high beam, both were on.

They are actually better at lighting up the road than even the full size LED bucket lights.
