Default sportster engine warmup

I hear a lot of different answers, 5 minutes, 10 minutes, until the heads are warm, What do y'all think? how long should the engine warmup before riding off?

Long enough to put on your helmet, zip up your jacket and put your smoke out is enough.
Lots of people use the palm of the hand against the jug, if it's too hot for a second or so your good to go.

I can definitely feel my bike running smoother after about 15 minutes riding, once the oil temps are up and metals all expanded and working well together.

About 30 seconds (when I leave at 5:30am as to not **** off my neighbours up to a couple minutes. I keep it below 3,000 RPMs until I feel the engine has warmed up. One way I do that is based on idle at red lights. If it idles at 1,200 - 1,300 RPM, I figure it's still cold. When it drops down to the usual 1,000 RPM, I figure it's good to go. Right or wrong, it's what I do.

Well...we know you have a Sportster and it's probably an 883 (hence your userID). Is your bike carb or EFI? There is a difference w/warm-up, depending on which...

My EFI changes idle about 30-40 secs after starting, while I finish gearing up and backing out. I figure it's good to go, conservatively, at that time. After a few minutes and a stoplight or two, it's warm enough to romp.

I watch the head temp on my powervision and wait till a minimum of 130 degrees fahrenheit. I try to wait till 150-200 but sometimes Im in a rush. Usually takes about 2 mins.
