here is a picture of my 2016 48 with 4.5 gal tank.
I personally like the 4.5 over the 3.3 on 48s because it accentuates the slammed look.
Any stock EFI sportster tank 2.1/3.3/4.5 gal will be direct bolt on.
i want to make my first harley the 48, so this is a great question. The biggest thing turning me away from the 48 is the peanut tank.
I thought the same thing before I bought my 48. After you ride 80 miles on it you’ll be glad to stop for gas. Dont get me wrong... I LOVE THIS BIKE. It’s just a bone jarring experience. The peanut tank looks amazing too. You could always carry a fuel bottle that would give you a few extra miles. I took a 240 mile trip this past summer and just planned my route accordingly. My buddies all had much bigger tanks but had no problem stopping often for gas.

I believe the 48 has a 2 gallon tank, the Nightster has the 3.3 gallon tank.
