I'm putting some pipes on my Nightster. The dealership says I have to re-map the bike and a local bike shop says a Fuelpak does the same thing. Since I hate my dealership's parts people (they are the least helpful people ever) I would like to go to this bike shop. Is it true that if you put on the Fuelpak you don't need to re-map?
I was told by the service guy where bought my bike..that you can put slip-ons...on your bike without doing anything else....If you go with a breather kit then you have to remap...so I guess it depends what your looking for...Being broke, I'll have to do it in stages.....
Slip ons are fine with no remap...The remap is only nessary when when you add the A/C....Just had the wholestage one thing..... done save your money well worth it.
Slipons SE/AC and Download close to 800 bucks
I know there has been a great deal of talk about "if you just do slip ons...".
What I found when I put on some Cycle Shack slip ons on mine is that the bike ran like C R A P.
I put on a PCIII and it helped tremendously (with the right map of course). Not only did it fix the rideability but it also reduced the "hotness" of the bike....basically richening up the fuel mixture, thus increasing the cooling effect......
You don't NEED to remap, but it would definetely help. The fuelpak will remap it as well. All of these devices remap the fuel for EFI bikes. there are a lot of them. The general concensus areound here of the best ones are the PCIII, and then the fuelpak, TFI, DFO, etc. I got a used pcIII off of ebay for $100. It was a snap to install. If you are going to change pipes, I recommend getting a Ness big sucker a/c, or a K and n filter and installing it yourself. Then get a pcIII or a DFO or fuelpak. I say you might as well get a full system instead of slipon's but my wife has a sporty and it has been jetted(the same as a remap for EFI bikes) has a k and n air filter and slip on's and it runs great.
