How to replace an ignition
That sort if depends on the year of the bike and thats an ignition switch not an ignition. On newer ones there is a quick disconnect. That doesn't look like an newer bike but, it may be. No idea. Seach here by bike: http://shop.outpostalaska.com/OEMpartfinder.htm
new ones come with wires.

yeah. With a 2008. You will be cutting the wires and splicing in the new switch. Not hard at all. The new switch may come with butt connectors. May not. Call a deal and see. They may want your keys, keycodes, or vin. An aftermarket switch will come with new keys and a key code.
Why do you believe the ignition switch requires change?
Could bike have been exposed to harsh weather for many years?
Maybe the switch just requires some internal cleaning to free things up?
I have cleaned-up bad locks on other stuff in the past by dipping key in automatic transmission fluid and working key several times.
Once key was loose then got some graphite and did the same again.
Could bike have been exposed to harsh weather for many years? - Garage Kept, but have rode in rain a few times.
Maybe the switch just requires some internal cleaning to free things up? - Yup, cleaned with Blast-Off.
I want to say I kinda felt it .... break? when i tunred it off. Then turning it righ back on, only the Odo light up. The Headlight didnt come on, no pre fuel priming, nothing.

the ignition wires on the 2008 shoot directly off the main/electrical backbone harness that runs up behind all the plastic above the engine.
there will be wire snipping and crimping. Thank hd for that. This could be used as an opportunity to add in a waterproof dephi quick disconnect but, to keep things simple stick to the service manuals/e-diag manual directions and use butt connections like shown below.
