Default 883 to 1250 conversion kit

Hi all! I'm looking into ordering a Hammer 1250 conversion kit for my 92 Sporty 883. She is currently stripped and the engine torn apart because I'm powder coating and replacing all seals and gaskets. I'm doing everything myself, so this is quite a project. So here's my dilemma, I don't know what else is all involved in the conversion. Do I need the $250+ ignition system that is recommended, or can I reduce the timing to achieve the same result?

Hi from the UK and welcome to HDF. We have many members who have used Hammer products, and they will be along soon with their experiences. As for the stock ignition module, it has to meet EPC regulations and will not provide such good results. Don't try to cut corners! If you simply use 'Search this forum' for '1250' you will find plenty of reading matter in earlier threads.

The updated ignition came with my 1250 conversion kit from Hammer. You might as well go whole hog while you're doing it.

Good question, idk. I know you can back off timing by turning the ignition counter clockwise, but the factory curve might come in too fast. I highly recommend a quality aftermarket ignition. Curve options, rev limiter and worth their weight in gold. I run a nose cone ignition in my 2002. I run an external ignition in my 1992 while keeping the stock nose cone. I like both ways

I'd suggest contacting Hammer to see. From what I have seen they seem like straight shooters and will tell you like it is.
