looking to replace cables, 2000 Xl1200C, I bought a while back. Came with 10 inch apes + stock risers, not my style. Looking to replace control cables. Will a newer year sporty's cables work? I've measured and newer year stock length will work for the new bars I'm running. I've tried looking it up and aren't to clear if that'll be an option. There's plenty of slightly used cables available from riders going + on bars, seems if they will work I could save some $$$......
A useful source of reference is a parts website, where you can compare part numbers. That won't guarantee an answer, but will help. As an example your clutch cable was introduced in 2000, so I suspect was used for several years after that.

you might try poking around on Magnum cables website. They have some amazing cables and some bike lookup features that might be helpful. https://www.magnumshielding.com/

Cable routing can play a big role as well. Do you have a picture of the bike with the 10" apes installed? Were the cables routed around the fork tube and then back toward the primary and carb? A picture is worth a thousand words.
That year of bike with a CV carb should have Throttle/Idle cables with 5 1/8" +or- of travel and a Clutch cable with 2 13/16" +or- travel.
