What is this vacuum line on the carb?
I have a 2002 Sportster 1200...
I am having fuel/carb issues and started to pull apart my carburetor, after I took off my carb and disconnected the vacuum tube off the back, I found a tube, which I assume is a vacuum tube that appears to be rotting and disconnected.
The tube in question connects with “y fitting” to the vacuum tube that connects to the carburetor. It’s connected to the y fitting, but I can’t tell where it goes after that. Can you help?
The tube I am holding is the one Inam trying to identity. Where does it go?

That petcock is vacuum operated. It's only lets fuel out if there is suction on the petcock. There is a line that goes from the carb to the petcock. If it's messed up or cracked, it can lead to fueling issues.
Like the other poster mentioned, the other option is the VOES. I got rid of mine a long time ago but it's a sensor thing under there somewhere with a vacuum port. If it's unplugged, then you know where this line goes.
This is what the VOES looks like.

Replace it with OEM Harley's parts. Keep the vacuum petcock (safety) and VOES (efficient). Get you a Harbour Freight vacuum pump for checking and do it right.

With a Y piece that vacuum line goes to both your petcock and the VOES. In my personal experience, with the VOES disconnected or failed the bike can ride like ****. You'll know all about that! I've never had a vacuum tap and don't miss that experience, but then I've been riding since before they were invented.
I would replace the tap with a conventional one, but run a single hose from carb direct to the VOES switch. On the other hand, if your bike runs fine, it is just possible you have an aftermarket ignition module - some of them use the VOES, others do not. You may also already have a non-vacuum tap, if the bike runs with a split hose.

Thanks all!
the tube has been found and replaced.
I didn’t know about the VOES system and took me a bit to learn about it and find it. If anyone is wondering, it’s behind/attached to the petcock (aka- fuel valve). Threw on a new vacuum line and she started up just fine.
Again, thanks!

I'm glad you got your problem solved easily.
