Default sportster gear select problems
Hi, my mate has got a 2003 sportster and when it is cold its difficult to select first gear ,we have changed the clutch plate(grenade ring) out for 2 steels and a new friction plate,old friction plate was fine all the rivets and springs in place. its fine when up to runnning temp! anyone got any ideas,sounds like its catching on the gear teeth and then clunks loudly into gear,Cheers in advance.Paul

Normal behavior, the plates stick together when cold.

While its warming up after first starting,try pulling the clutch leaver four or five times before putting it in gear. It will free up the plates.
