I wasn't going to bother with them, but I'm kicking around the idea of plumbing the oil tank using bendable copper tubing, which will mean I have to take off the side cover to get access to the oil pump, so I find my self wondering if I "may as well" put in some cams.
I'm not looking for a hot rod bike. My donor bike is a 1997 1200, and AFAIK the motor has never been opened up. I'm not interested in bumping compression or doing head work or anything like that. Just looking to see if there are some cams that I should be putting in to open her up a bit. In the big twin world, this is where you'd put in an Andrews EV-27. Is there an equivalent go-to cam in the Sportster world?
There are actually relatively few cams for Sporties. The stock cams and heads work well with a boost in CR, so that is the more usual way of adding a little extra. Stock 883 heads will even work well with 1200+ cylinders and an increase in CR, especially for street use.

I'll be swapping to Screamin Eagle 25197-04 .551 cams on my 1200. They are drop in for 04s and my FP3 has a tuning option for them.
For older models, Screamin Eagle heads and pinion gear may be required.
Here's the description: This high-performance cam features bolt-in installation with increased lift and duration over the stock cams. This cam is best suited for high horsepower and high RPM applications, and the .551" lift improves peak horsepower above 4,500 RPM. All EFI models require ECM calibration (priced separately). For race application only.
Fits ’04-later XL1200 models. Will also fit ’92-’03 XL1200 models equipped with Screamin’ Eagle Sportster Performance Cylinder Heads P/N 16677-05. ’92-’99 models will require additional purchase of Pinion Gear P/N 24047-00.
