Default 2011 883N CKP Trouble Code (P0374)

Hey everyone,

I went out for a ride yesterday, maybe 20 miles through the city and out of nowhere, lost power and the bike sputtered and died on me. I saw the check engine light illuminated and pulled over, started back up and it still sputtered but I was able to cruise to my garage. I checked the codes and it threw a P0374 code (Crank Position Sensor Error).

I have never had this bike flat-out die on me like that. I went in and checked the battery terminals, reset the ECU (no tuner) and checked the basics. I'm fine with buying a new CPS, I just want to make sure that's actually what the problem is. It was misfiring hard and almost felt like it was out of gas and bogging down, does this sound like a bad Crank Position sensor to you guys?

I tried replicating the issue after, but I couldn't get it to throw the code, it would just sputter but not die. I didn't feel confident enough to ride too far because it would keep losing power. Any advice is welcome.

Replace the sensor. They're cheap and since it threw that code it's likely faulty. Symptoms you stated match up with one malfunctioning, too.

+1 on a new CKP. Marginal/old CKPs then to fail when they get hot.

I ended up buying one of the new CPS off eBay, plugged it in and haven't seen the code since.

Thanks for the help guys.

Well, looks like I may have spoken too soon.

I was riding home from work earlier this week and stuck in pretty heavy traffic. Ambient temp was like ~70 degrees, my commute is about 15-20 minutes in downtown Chicago traffic, so lots of starting and stopping. As I'm pulling up to my garage the bike starts missing when I roll on the throttle, very similar to what was happening before, no check engine light though.

I check the codes when I park and that f***** P0374 code was thrown again. I'm starting to think this may be a bad ground somewhere, or there is something else causing the sync issue.

Any other ideas before I take it to a shop?

Are you sure you cleared the previous (historical) codes when the CKP was replaced? No check engine light this time makes me think it may be an old code.

Can confirm, I cleared the codes a few times after I put the new sensor on because I remember it showing the 'NONE'.

It does seem strange that no check engine light came on though.

I tried the wiggle test for those cables and couldn't get any change in how it ran.

Okay, so I got my hands on a new wiring harness for the engine; injectors, map, throttle position and air temp cables. This thing is basically brand new. Pulled the old one, put the new one in. Went for a ride, right away this thing felt so much better. I get about two miles down the road and the bike starts dying again, sputtering and missing, I try to gas it but she still dies, pushed the damn thing 2 miles in Chicago traffic.

I check the codes, and.... P0107 (haven't seen this one before), MAP sensor erroring out.

So now I have changed the CKP, wiring harness and now its telling me to change the MAP sensor. My question is, how do I even pull this thing? Its sitting right on top of the throttle bodies and feels loose to the touch, the sensor also looks dirty and could probably use a cleaning.

Any help or links would be awesome, thanks.
