I know it's been awhile since the last post to this thread, but my wife recently purchased a '17 Forty Eight and really wants the M8 SB speedo. You are the closest I've found to somewhat successfully accomplish this mod. What wires did you splice? Do the colors just match up? Obviously the SB harness has a different pin count than the Forty Eight harness. I really want to do this mod for her and would like any advise you could offer. I also wonder if the SB fuel pump and level module that bolts into the tank would fit a '17 sportster or if Harley Davidson would sell just the pickup from that brake reservoir cap kit?

Just look at the schematics, should be easy to work out.
I planned to just repinn the plugs. The op cut n soldered.
I just couldn't wotk out how to stop the low fuel light constantly on, so gave up
Yeah, I was planning on repinning the plugs as well, rather than cut and solder. Where are you finding these schematics? I have a hayes manual for my wife's Sportster, I'm sure there is a wiring schematic in it. But to compare that to the SB, is there an online schematic to look at for this one time mod?

Tbh I can't fully remember, been a while since I looked at them.. I think I just Google 2014 sportster schematic and found them, iv saved a page, however sometimes the site doesn't work...
At some point I photos the two bikes n worked out what should be plugged where, apart from the fuel sensor
Finally got around to upload some pictures. The speedo works great.
If you want the fuel gauge to work you'll need to get a fuel pump/sensor from a m8 as well, I haven't bothered with that and just use the trip meter to give me a ballpark
Question to all who have accomplished this, does the low fuel indicator work after the swap if you don't have the additional fuel level monitor for the sportster? I'm trying to swap my stock Iron 883 gage with that of a softail fat Bob. So far from reading the wiring diagrams, the Sportsters have dedicated wires for low fuel and fuel level in the connectors, whereas this info is transmitted via the CAN wires in softails. Based on this, in case of a swap, either the low fuel light should always stay on, or never light up. Just trying to get a better idea what it is in practicality for the people who have made the switch.
The fat bob gage also connects via a 12-pin connector, so should be a straightforward swap there. Everything else should work as is, except the fuel function has me in a twist.
Thanks in advance for the help!
When I spoke to the op, the fuel light will stay on, unless you buy the fuel gauge for the sporty, I'm sure he said he fixed it, but to be honest that's where I gave up.
The OP hasn’t posted since Aug 2020. I even private messaged him and he hasn’t replied. I just ordered a box-o-parts and am going to figure it all out on my own.

Thanks @007Duc . If you need help with the wiring diagrams, let me know and I can share. Keep us posted.

Hey thanks a ton. The only diagram Im lacking is for the M8 Street Bob (what I ordered the parts for). I have my wifes Forty Eight wiring, and wiring for my CAN BUS softail Twin Cam. But nothing for an M8 bike.
