Nightster problems...
Well in lieu of a continuation to other threads' posts... I decided to just one for my woes.
2007 1200N 1150+- miles.
For a couple weeks now I have heard an electrical/mechanical sound every few seconds from my scoot in around the tank area. Not near as loud as the fuel pump. You have to be very close to the bike to even here it. I just throught it was the alarm system polling every few seconds for the key fob. Why I should hear a mechanical sound associated with that - I don't know, but no other problems were occuring and all seemed normal.
Then the other day my speedo tanks a dump and drops to zero and immediatly climbs back to speed - not unlike a diagnostic I have seen on other vehicles once the ignition sequence begins before starting.
Then I roll into my garage and hit the kill switch and the bike does not die.
By now, I know there is a problem. My service (1000mile) is coming up this week (tuesday). I called the dealer last week (thursday) and told them what was going on. They seemed baffled and had never heard of that happening before. But said they would look into it tuesday.
Well last night (saturday), I decide to go for a ride. Rolled the bike out of the garage and hit the start button. Nothing. The bike had been setting since thursday. New guy at work so I have been showing him around and he has been riding in my cage with me. I have an Optima Red Top battery with nearly 12 volts charge in it setting in the garage. I decide to try and boost the bike from it. Nothing. I use my Jeeps Optima Yellow Top - nothing. Well, I don't drive my Jeep much anymore, so on to the Wife's Envoy. I got a bump - only a bump.
Put the charger on trickle (Vector Smart Charge). This morning the charger was offline reporting that the battery was full. Cool.
Crank it up. I hear a small knock before she really starts to turn over. Then I see the engine light is on. I immediately think Crank Positioning Sensor. I let it idle for a few seconds and all sounds normal but just before I went to kill it, the rpm's reved up and it almost sounded like the bike was running on one cylinder!
I kill it.
If I jog the inginition to run, the engine light stays on. Is there a way to pull the codes without a reader on these bikes? You know, cycle the ignition switch, hold the signal, lift one leg, etc etc... I can pull codes in my Jeep by cycling the ignition switch three times - this is why I ask.

Ive read of this happening before...with the speedo and then not starting. I'm not sure if it was here or xlforum.net, but you might want to do some surf'n and see what the other dug up.
Bottom line is the bike is under warranty, if it wont start or you dont feel safe riding it, call your stealer and have them tow it. Just my $.01

Jeese, I even pinned it to the Top of the page. Can't say these are good for '07's but it's all I got for ya!

Ok...
Under P (ECM/ICM moduals):
Code: p0263 - rear injector open/low EFI
Code: p0154 - rear 02 sensor open/not responding (Had to find this explanation elsewhere)
Also reports I need this part number: 32152-07 - which I can't find right away.
I expected a Crank Position Sensor by the way it sounded while running.
But for the prosperity: the instructions with this link will work with 07's at least.

UPDATE:
What a fiasco getting my bike to the dealer. First I call my local HD. They said that they don't tow in (I figure he means for free) and suggests I call HOG. I do. After a 2 minute automated message, they just tell me to call some other place direct. I do that. After holding for what seemed like forever, they come on the line and ask if I am safe... haha... Seems if they were that concerned, they would staff enough people to bring down those hold times. Anyway, they say they will find someone. A few minutes later, they call me back and say yada-yada towing will be here within the hour. OK. Yada-yada calls me and says, Sir we are on our way, please have $25 ready to cover the overages. What??? I am 11 miles from the dealership. "Yes, sir, we know, but motorcycles are a liability for us and if so much as scratch your mirror, we loose money." I tell him to turn around and not to bother. He seemed happy with that outcome. I call HOG back and tell them. But only after holding for forever. They round up someone else for me and note yada-yada towing as a big negative for future use. yada-yada2 towing shows up. They go to wratchet the bike down and I supplied some rags to put under his straps. They were very careful with the bike otherwise and professional. Hated the flat bed towing though.
I follow them to the dealer since my work day was blown anyway and the service guy takes all the notes. Turns out this is the first EFI Sporty they have ever had come back with problems. He had never heard of the kill switch OR the ignition switch not cutting the bike off. And he could not say from the top of his head what that sound could have been all this time. They said they will look at it tomorrow and get back to me. From my experience in dealing with automotive service departments, I am pretty sick at my stomach right now. I hope they don't pull a toyota and try and tell me it is some special "widget" that is broke and that my slip-ons are to blame. Or some other lame -you have to pay for this- service work.
I miss 'er already. My garage feels so empty now.

Rode a 1200 custom at a OZ dealer day and the speedo did the same thing to me, 100ks then zero for about 30 secs the back to 100.
Told the service dude at the dealer when I got back but he said its a HD demo bike so they can worry about it.
