Default Help pleaseeeeeeee.

I just purchased a 2000 HD Sportster and it has been a disaster. The test drive was great and I even took a buddy of mine to check it out because he's rode them for a long time. I start home on the bike and about 10-15 miles down the road the bike starts sputtering like it's out of gas so I pull over and fill it up. Take off again and sure enough 1/2 mile down the road it just quits on me. Took it back to the guy I bought it from he took it down the road no problems and basically called me an idiot (which is true concerning HD). So back on the road and an hour and a half later I finally get home after stopping and starting stopping and starting. I really like this bike and it's mine now but I have no idea what could be the problem or even where to start. Take all the advice I can get.

Make sure the gas tank is venting , Try leaving the gas cap a little loose just a thought.

Not sure I'd blast the fuel line with air. I just replaced the petcock on my friend's Yamaha XT225. The screen on that petcock was destroyed somehow, and looked pretty fragile even on the new one. Not sure if the Sportster petcock screen is as flimsy, but beware.

The 2000 does not have a vacuum operated fuel line but it sounds like fuel contamination, drain the tank and add some fresh gas mixed with sea foam. If it isn't the gas, you have an electrical problem, don't panic, it can be fixed. Find an independent shop, they usually don,t charge as much.

PS: be extremely careful your first few weeks of riding, you have a steep learning curve ahead of you.
