Touring Brembo brake mod problem
I found a brand new set of dual Brembo Callipers and rotors of a 2013 Road Glide that were taken off at the showroom for an "upgrade"
Too good a deal to pass up.
I tried to do the mod today and now find that the stock HD Touring rotor (dual discs) mounting holes are not counter bored like my XL1200R rotors. The rotor torx screws hit the fork legs so I either need to get the rotors machined, or buy different counterbored rotors.
Guess I did not do my research well enough.......
Off to see the machine shop today with the other small brake mod issue for the rear mod
My 07 has a single sided push and scrape calliper so I also found a new take off 2017 rear 2 piston calliper and bracket. I also found a new 17 take of rear rotor which surprisingly is a smaller diameter presumably due to the better calliper? The same rear rotor is used on the XR1200
A PN search shows that the swing arm and all the bits are the same but for the spacer and new bracket, so ordered the 2017 L spacer. I could not confirm that the wheel is the same or same dimensions
The new style 25mm VS 1"axle problem relating to the calliper bracket and spacer is easily overcome at home.
2 issues on the rear aside from the axle diameter:
1. The new calliper hits my larger than stock shock spring OD but not a big deal and I can space the shock out 5mm or so
2. The calliper is not centred on the rotor. The parts stack up fills the swingarm, and the wheel is aligned the same as the R spacer is still up against the swingarm per the 07 design. The only part that I cannot confirm is the wheel width???
The new rotor is 1mm thicker and would not account for the problem as the calliper needs to move inboard.
Off to the machine shop to spot face the bracket 1mm thereby moving the 2017 calliper inboard as that is easier than machining the mounting face on the wheel
Or maybe a 3rd issue, as I do not know the bore/stroke sizes of the two different rear MC? Will know when it is test ridden.
At least I am in Canada now and 50 Km from the US border where parts abound! If back in Thailand doing this type of mod is not quite so easy and the Dyna pictured below as a bit of work getting it all together.
Oh the joys of not being able to leave it well enough alone!!
I have a feeling that a Brembo MC is next as the one on the Dyna made a huge difference. This makes such a difference that I now have Brembo RS19 front MC on all my (dual disc) bikes
