My stock horn stopped working. The voltage is zero at the horn. So, does that mean it's most likely the switch is bad in the button? Or, is there anything else to cause a horn problem.
I read that grounding can be a problem. So I tried the horn removed from the bike but with the wires connected. Zero volts.
Is there anything else besides the two wires to the horn and the switch involved?
How difficult is it to replace the button switch?
Thanks for any guidance.
If you disconnect the horn wires and use a bulb or test light between them you can press the horn to see if the bulb lights up (with the ignition on!). If it lights your horn button is OK. My money, based on long experience, is that your horn is kaput. I have never been able to reawaken one once they do that, so don't be surprised if you have to replace yours.
Update: Problem not solved.
The horn works when I apply 12 volts.
The fuses are ok.
I don't see a frayed wire anywhere.
All I can think of now is the horn button is not working. Any way to test this, ideas?
at the risk of making things worst if youre not used to taking things apart and troubleshooting you might take apart the housing and look for the problem. Remove fuse first then use a multimeter and do some continuity checks.
