While riding in a welcome home escort a few days ago, my horn suddenly stopped working. I don't think it's the horn itself. Usually when they go bad from over use, they first start to fade away. This one just suddenly stopped during mid beep. So, I'm thinking either, a fuse, relay, wire loose, that type of thing. Before I start going through all of the electrical stuff in the Service manual, and trying to track down the problem (I get lost in a hurry when it comes to electrical stuff). I wondered if anyone else has experienced this, maybe there is a "most likely" problem that I can check out first.
I have the little dinky round horn that is mounted on the front of the frame, not the horn that is mounted on the left side of the engine.
The horn is powered by the accessories fuse. If that fuse was blown your speedo would be dead. The only thing between the fuse and the horn is the horn switch, so it's the horn, horn sw. or wiring in between.
Check for 12v to the horn first, while pushing the horn button. And of course loose connections.
If I do the horn relocation, it will be the 200db air horn. Probably get arrested with one of those though. Thanks for the help. I kinda thought there would be other things not working if it was a fuse.
Hey SportyPig,
I've got a volt meter, duct tape and a big hammer. Your welcome to bring the Pig by the house. If it ain't broke, we will work on it until it is.

Oh, it's broke. Didn't even need the volt meter to find the problem. And duct tape won't fix that. Bet ya never thought you'd hear a redneck say that!!
It is the horn, kinda. The electrical tab that the wire connects to broke in half. I'm not sure how in the hell that happened. Sounds like a simple fix, but not really. The tab is made into the horn. Only way to fix this is if I can soider (or however ya spell that word) the tab back in place. The way it's broke, and made, I'm not sure I will be able to do that. Certainly gonna hafta wait until I have an extra set of steady hands to hold the thing in place during the process.
Might hafta take ya up on that offer liddown. I'll let ya know.
That must have happen during that 50 mph crosswind you were riding in on the PGR Mission Mother's Day. Let me know if you need the third hand and a soldering gun.
