2018 883 WITH 447 MILES.
TROUBLE CODE P0503 "VSS Speed Failed High". How serious is this? Can the bike be riden to a dealer?
Also got a reading of Pn 001445-01

 

Vehicle Speed Sensor
Your speedo and self cancelling signals may not be working because of it, IF the sensor is dead. May affect other things as well. How comfy are you riding without a speedo or self cancelling signals? I'd be pissed... 447 miles on it. Wow.

A quick search shows that some people have pulled the sensor and cleaned it and it worked again but I wouldn't touch it.... warranty.

 

undewhelmd hit the nail on the head. You should also see your check engine light come on and the engine will start running like crap. Mine went out at about 8,000 miles and it was almost impossible to keep the engine running at idle, it would just cut out. Also I'm one of those that likes to down shift along with braking when coming to a stop. The engine didn't handle the RPM changes very well and would want to cut out. Worst 20 mile ride I ever had to the dealership. Totally covered under warranty and the VSS in not in a fun location to get to that you would want to mess with.
